Zero

glassesWelcome to the first week of Change! We are glad you are here!  Over the next 7 weeks, we will walk together as you learn time-proven principles and practical tools. Best of all, you'll get to do this all in the company of friends.

In just seven weeks, you'll have your very own financial plan (some might even call it a budget) that gives every dollar you make a job. We will also introduce you to tools to help you keep an eye on your spending in nearly real time so that you can have success in reaching your goals.

You may think Zero a strange title for a week. We chose it for a couple of reasons.

First, this is the get organized week. As with each week, there are some activities to do before you meet up  with your friends. This week those activities center around getting things set up to give you the best chance at success. You don't want to miss these. Don't worry. We think you'll enjoy them.

Second, when it comes to finances, zero can be a pretty significant number.

If you tend to see the glass half empty, zero might represent what you feel you know about finances, the balance in your savings account, or the number of vacation days you have left.

On the other hand, if you see the glass half full, zero could be what you owe on your school loans or your car. Add a few zeroes to your salary and you could go from living below the poverty line to a very comfortable lifestyle. Zero could even be just a good place to start.

Whether you are starting out at zero or you just want to get back there, choose to consider this week a fresh start!

Fair warning. This is not some get-rich-quick, self help, financial miracle program. It is a system that needs to be worked. Once you get the basics down, it will be easy and nearly run itself. But like all change, it will take a commitment now. Don’t just read about these things! Apply them. Ask questions when you don’t get them. With some work, some time, and a willingness to keep at it, you CAN get a handle on your finances.

So … welcome to zero week! If you're ready to get started, we'll introduce you to the first activity of each week, Listen. This week we'll listen to the importance of a solid foundation.
