Appetites
From the clothes we wear, to the car we drive, to the house we call home, we are a culture driven by our appetites. 'I want it all and I want it now!'
Society encourages us to feed our appetites daily. With a credit card with a decent limit, it seems almost possible to have your cake and eat it too! Until you max your card and the bill comes due you can feed those appetites for quite a while.
Others seem to suggest you suppress all of your appetites. With a totally straight face, they encourage you to remove anything from your budget resembling entertainment or fun.
We don’t think either of these extremes is healthy.
Beginning at creation and moving through the Bible, we see instances everywhere of God delighting in His work and instructing us to enjoy it. You will be pleased to know that there is nothing in scripture specifically prohibiting nice houses, luxury cars, even that flat screen TV.
So as not to misrepresent, there are some guidelines and some attitudes for keeping our appetites healthy and there are some appetites that are completely off-limits.
Listen to the man who had all kinds of appetites and as you do remember what your mom said about being careful what you wish for.
